Overcoming the Impossible: How to Achieve What Others Said You Couldn't

Updated: Nov 26

How many times have you been told, “That’s just not realistic” or “Most people can’t do that”? When we set out to chase big dreams, or even face serious challenges, it’s not uncommon for well-meaning people to urge caution—or even suggest we let go. But just because someone else couldn’t overcome that obstacle doesn’t mean it’s out of reach for you.

Life doesn’t come with a one-size-fits-all roadmap, and what’s possible for each of us is as unique as our own story. I’ve experienced this firsthand on my journey to reverse what was once thought irreversible with my health. From stage 4 kidney disease, I worked closely with a wonderful doctor, healing through nutrition, prayer, and intentional practices. Eighteen months later, my kidneys improved to stage 1. This wasn’t a typical story, but it was my story, and it unfolded because I believed in the possibility beyond what others might have accepted as fact.

Here’s why your path forward is just as full of potential, no matter the odds or doubters you encounter.

Believe in What’s Possible—Especially When Others Don’t

Often, our biggest obstacle isn’t the challenge itself; it’s the doubt that creeps in when others can’t see what we’re capable of. Others may have walked a similar road, but no one else has your unique blend of strengths, determination, and perspective. Remember, someone else’s “impossible” doesn’t define your potential. It’s simply a reflection of what wasn’t possible for them—it’s not a predictor of what’s possible for you.

Take Control of Your Journey with Intentional Choices

Even when life feels out of control, there’s almost always something we can influence. When I started my healing journey, one of my first steps was to embrace choices I could make every day to support my kidneys. Simple dietary adjustments—less sodium, more hydration, the right fruits and veggies—became daily acts of self-respect. Each choice, while small, built on the next, empowering me to take control over the part of my journey I could influence. Similarly, whether it’s a professional goal, a health journey, or a personal challenge, making intentional choices each day can be a powerful, transformative practice.

Draw on Your Inner Resilience through Faith or Meditation

Healing is as much mental and emotional as it is physical. Faith played a huge role in my journey, grounding me with hope and a sense of purpose. For you, it might be prayer, meditation, journaling, or a daily gratitude practice. Choose something that helps you reconnect with what matters most to you. These practices don’t just ease stress—they strengthen your sense of purpose, which fuels resilience even in the face of tough odds.

Look for Unexpected Sources of Support

Sometimes, the help we need comes from the most unexpected places. For me, binaural beats—specific sound frequencies designed to promote relaxation and healing—became an essential part of my recovery routine. If you’re facing a challenge, consider the tools or resources that might help in ways you wouldn’t expect. Maybe it’s a supportive friend who helps you stay on track, a podcast that inspires you, or an alternative healing practice that speaks to you. The more open you are to support, the more options you’ll discover.

Find the Right Guide for Your Journey

Whether it’s a doctor, a mentor, or a coach, having someone on your side who believes in your potential can make all the difference. My doctor became a key partner on my journey, offering the medical expertise I needed while respecting my desire for a holistic approach. Finding a guide who truly understands and supports your unique journey can bring you strength and perspective. If you’re working toward a big goal, consider who might be able to help you navigate it with their expertise, encouragement, and insights.

Your Journey Is Yours Alone—And That’s a Gift

Just because others couldn’t find a way through doesn’t mean you won’t. You are equipped with your own strengths, resources, and spirit. And sometimes, believing in the “impossible” is exactly what helps you make it real.

So don’t let anyone else’s story limit what’s possible for you. Embrace your path with open arms and stay hopeful—even when the path looks unclear. You might just find that the impossible becomes reality when you walk forward with courage, determination, and an open heart.
